About the Speaker - Andre Dawson

We're thrilled to announce this year's keynote speaker, MLB Hall of Famer and 8-time All-Star, Andre Dawson. Andre Dawson, nicknamed “The Hawk” and “Awesome Dawson”, played 21 seasons of professional baseball, most notably with the Montreal Expos (1976-1986) and Chicago Cubs (1987-1992). In 1977 after batting .282 with 19 home runs and 65 RBI he was named the league’s Rookie of the Year. In Dawson’s first season with the Chicago Cubs, he set career highs with 49 home runs and 137 RBI and became the first player in MLB history to win an MVP Award while playing for a last-placed team. He was also runner up for the MVP Award in both 1981 and 1983. Dawson finished his career with 2,774 hits, 438 home runs, 314 stolen bases, and 1,591 RBI. Dawson is one of only five baseball players to hit over 400 home runs and steal over 300 bases, along with Barry Bonds, Willie Mays, Alex Rodriguez, and Carlos Beltran. In 2010, Dawson was elected to the Professional Baseball Hall of Fame.
